9.3.4 Connecting Wireless PCs to a Linksys

 Configure basic wireless settings on a PC.

 Configure basic security on the Linksys-WRT300N.

 Verify full connectivity.

Introduction

In this activity, you will configure wireless PCs to connect to a network via the Linksys

WRT300N. You will configure basic security on the Linksys WRT300N by changing the

default SSID, the default password, and adding WEP encryption.

Task 1: Connect to the Linksys WRT300N Router

Step 1. Connect to the wireless router.

From WirelessPC1, access the Desktop then PC Wireless. Select the Connect tab and

connect to the default network.

Step 2. Verify connectivity settings.

While still at the desktop of the PC, close the Linksys GUI window and then verify the

connectivity settings by accessing the Command Prompt and typing the ipconfig

command.

PC>ipconfig

IP Address......................: 192.168.1.100

Subnet Mask.....................: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway.................: 192.168.1.1

Task 2: Access the Linksys WRT300N

Step 1. Access Linksys WRT300N, WRS1 through the web browser.

On WirelessPC1, close the Command Prompt and then click the Web Browser. Enter the

URL 192.168.1.1, the default gateway of the PC.

Step 2. Enter authentication information.

You will be prompted for a username and password. The default username and password

are both admin. Once you have entered the login information, you should be viewing the

default page of the Linksys WRT300N web utility.
