IP Address Management
DHCP is widely used to provide IP addresses to
Network Elements and Subscribers
DHCP Server issues proper IP address based on:
Location of Subscriber (DHCP Option 82)
Vendor ID of CPE originating request (DHCP Option 60 and/or Vendor ID i.e.
the first three bytes of MAC-Address)
This enables per service IP Address assignment
Simplified Security and QoS Classification through Service
Address Ranges
Voice, Video and Data can all reside on the same Access VLAN
Removes the need for 802.1Q trunking on the Home Access Gateway
More Secure and simpler Home Access Gateway implementation
Uses Secondary IP Addresses on the L3 Distribution Switches
VLAN Per Service is supported if needed/desired
