distance—to create a high-capacity, high-performance storage network using
the latest high-speed interfaces.
The 15454 works at the core of storage network infrastructures in
local, campus, and wide-area environments to create a robust, scalable
solution. It integrates and fully exploits new high-speed channel and network
technologies. It provides a comprehensive, intelligent Dense Wavelength
Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solution for expanding bandwidth on
metropolitan and regional networks.
The Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP provides an intelligent DWDM solution
engineered to reduce DWDM complexity and speed the deployment of next-
generation networking solutions. The Cisco ONS 15454 fiber management
hardware provides the necessary supporting equipment to efficiently manage
the fiber jumper cables used within a Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP deployment.
The Cisco ONS 15454 supports Automatic Protection Switching (APS)
protocol on its tributaries on a 1+1 basis. The CISCO ONS 15454 is equipped
with an APS protected 1+1 OC-48 Long Reach optical interface. The CISCO
ONS 15454 supports provisioning of concatenated signals end-to-end at the
STS-3c and STS-12c levels. The Cisco ONS 15454 optical interfaces support
and are fully compliant with Telcordia GR-253 performance monitoring
requirements.
The Cisco ONS 15454 fiber management hardware is made up of two
components: a fiber storage shelf and a patch panel shelf.
The Cisco ONS 15454 Fiber Storage Shelf (FSS) provides slack
storage for single patch-cords and ribbon fiber cables for Cisco ONS 15454
Multi-service Transport Platform (MSTP) deployments. It is used to maintain
orderly fiber slack storage for intra-shelf cabling as well as for system-level
cables. The FSS is engineered by Cisco Systems to protect both single and
ribbon fiber cables from bend-induced losses by using large radius fiber
