Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series CEF720 10/100/1000 Ethernet over Copper Modules

Designed for high performance Enterprise and Service Provider distribution, core layers, data-center and

Web-hosting applications where voice capability is not required, CEF720 twisted-pair interface modules provide

line-rate 10/100/1000 Ethernet forwarding with the following operational advantages:

Forwarding architecture—Use the central CEF engine located on the supervisor engine; optional ﬁeld-upgradable

aCEF and dCEF forwarding daughter cards

Forwarding performance—Forward packets up to 30 Mpps per system; up to sustained 48 Mpps per slot for slots

equipped distributed forwarding cards (DFC or DFC3); up to 48 Mpps peak per slot for slots equipped with

accelerated forwarding card version 3

Fabric connection—Connect to the switch fabric using dual 20-Gbps switch fabric channel (40Gbps total)

Supervisor engine—Works with Supervisor Engine 720

Distributed forwardingupgrade option—Enables full locally distributed forwarding; use optional WS-F6700-DFC3

upgrade to operate with Supervisor Engine 720, provides optimal interface module performance

Accelerated forwarding upgrade option (future availability)—Enables locally accelerated forwarding; use optional

WS-F6700-AFC3 upgrade to operate with Supervisor Engine 720

Slot requirements—Can occupy any slot in any Cisco Catalyst 6503, 6506, 6509, 6509-NEBs; requires slot 9

through 13 when used in Catalyst 6513

Maximum Port Density / Chassis—up to 384 ports / Cisco Catalyst 6509; up to 240 CEF720 based and an

additional 336 Classic or CEF256 based ports / Cisco Catalyst 6513

Note:

Inline power is not supported on CEF720 10/100/1000 interface modules.
