Multiple-Stream Households
High-Definition Streams
Video programs—whether they are live television programs, PPV offerings, or VOD programs—arrive in your home
by traveling over the network. TDS assigns each household a minimum of two high-definition (HD) streams and two
standard-definition (SD) streams. Each stream can deliver a single program at a time to the set-top boxes in your home.
If you try to use more streams than you have available, a conflict occurs, and you are prompted to resolve it. For
example, if your home has three set-top boxes and three streams, a conflict would occur if two people watch live
TV and two other programs are scheduled to be recorded. In this case, TDS TV prompts you to resolve the conflict by
freeing up one of the streams.
Changing Digital Audio Output
To change the digital audio output:
1. Press the MENU button on your remote control.
2. Use the RIGHT ARROW button to select Settings on the horizontal menu bar.
3. Select Audio, select Digital audio output, and then press the OK button. The Digital audio output settings
screen appears.
4. Use the DOWN ARROW button to select Stereo or Surround sound. Select Save, then press the OK button.
Note: If you select Surround sound and do not hear audio, you should select Stereo—some televisions and
audio receivers do not support surround sound.
Emergency Alert System
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national public warning system which requires broadcasters, cable television
systems, wireless cable systems, wireline video providers, satellite digital audio radio service providers and direct
broadcast satellite service providers to make their communication facilities available during a national emergency.
EAS is also used by state and local authorities to deliver important emergency information (such as severe weather
warnings) to targeted geographical regions or areas.
National Emergency
In case of a national emergency, the set-top-box will auto tune to a channel designated by TDS and remain there
for the duration of the message. You will not be able to tune away, hit menu, or do anything until the message is
finished. The set-top-box will seem unusable until a termination message is sent.
Local Emergency
For local emergencies, a screen will appear during programming with an overlay describing the warning. The EAS
audio will also be heard. To dismiss the message, push Exit to TV on your remote.
