Chapter 4 Maintenance
Span Upgrade
Step 6 Wait 5 to 10 seconds for the command to take effect and click Next>. An error dialog box appears if
more time is needed. A Span Upgrade Dialog box appears showing Step 4 of the wizard (Figure 4-12).

Step 7 Remove the fiber from the lower-rate card and ensure that traffic is still running.
Step 8 Remove the lower rate STM-N cards from the protect slots and click Next>. A Span Upgrade Dialog box
appears showing Step 4 of the wizard (Figure 4-13).

Step 9
Install the higher-rate STM-N cards into the protect slots.
Step 10 Install the fiber and click Next>. The Span Upgrade Dialog box appears showing Step 5 of the wizard
(Figure 4-14).
