Quick Configuration
• The IP address that you want to assign to the Cisco Catalyst 1800
• The IP subnet mask your organization uses
• The IP address of the network management platform (SNMP)
• The IP address of your router (if you have one)
• The segment (ring) number(s) you plan to connect to the Cisco Catalyst 1800 (if you are
configuring a multi-ring switch)
Configuring a Single-Ring Switch
Follow these steps:
Step1 Connect a PC or VT series terminal to the Cisco Catalyst 1800 console port using the
supplied cable kit. (The baud rate defaults to 9600 bps.)
Step2 Turn on the PC terminal.
Step3 Turn on the Cisco Catalyst 1800.
Step4 Enter a valid password (the default password is public).
The Cisco Catalyst 1800 Main menu appears (Figure 2-3).
Step5 If you want to use SNMP network management, type this command:
Configure<SP>IP<SP>
The system responds:
Enter port number or 0 for setting all ports
Step6 Type this command (using the shortest unique command string) to set the IP parameters
for all ports:
c<SP>i<SP> 0
The Configuring IP Parameters menu appears and the system prompts you to choose a
menu selection.
Note From this menu, you can select any parameter to display the IP Configuration menu. You can
also type the Display command.
