Changes from NetMetrix version 5.0 to 6.0
8 October 1, 1998
● Protocol Analyzer can load in frame relay and PPP trace files from
the Internet Advisor.
● The license scheme for NetMetrix has changed for this release. Con-
sequently, you will need to request and install new license passwords.
For instructions, refer to page 41 of Installation.
● HP Probe Configuration (previously called LanProbe Configuration)
includes some new items for configuring the new HP WanProbes and
ATMProbes. For details, refer to page 82 of Data Collector Reference.
● The Initialize RMON tables application has been completely rewrit-
ten for this release, resulting in significantly improved performance.
● Power Agent and NFS Monitor have been discontinued and are no
longer included in the NetMetrix distribution. In addition, local mode is
no longer supported for Load Monitor and Protocol Analyzer.
As a result, several changes have been made to the Load Monitor and
Protocol Analyzer User interfaces. Note that, Protocol Analyzer still
supports “playback” mode, now called “Post Filter.” Refer to Load Moni-
tor chapter and Protocol Analyzer chapter in User’s Guide
Note that NetMetrix version 6.0 applications will interoperate with a
version 5.0 Power Agent.
● The six Token Ring utilities were enhanced from support of a single
port to now support the multiport probe, J3911A.
● The Trap Destinations application is no longer supported for Cisco Cat-
alyst switches.
● You can now collect standard RMON history data from fast Ethernet
RMON devices other than HP Fast Ethernet LanProbes.
● NetMetrix applications that work with Cisco switches now use slot/port
notation to refer to specific ports on a switch. Alternatively, you can
specify a friendly name for switch ports. Refer to the Agent Manager
chapter in DCR for further information.
● When sending traps, RMON Alarms now includes the ifIndex for the
interface or, for Cisco switches, the slot/port on which the alarm is con-
figured.
