(a system with one or more Distributed Forwarding Cards present). In a distributed system, aggregate policing

per-VLAN is not supported.

Microﬂow Policers

Enabling Microﬂow policing in the Cisco IOS Software must be done globally on the switch. This is not required in

CatOS. The police ﬂow command denotes the microﬂow policing conﬁguration for the Cisco IOS Software. The

rest of the conﬁguration follows a syntax similar to conﬁguring a Per-Interface Aggregate Policer in the Cisco

IOS Software.

Marking with an ACL

You can set the priority ﬁelds in a frame (CoS, DSCP, or ToS) for speciﬁc trafﬁc classes that match an ACL. This gives

the user more granularity and functionality than what is provided by marking with default port CoS values. The

Cisco IOS Software implementation of this feature requires a policer to achieve the desired functionality. Since it is

notthe intention of mostmarkingimplementations to actuallyratelimit trafﬁc (asisnormal with a policer),theCisco

IOS marking witha policer conﬁgurationmust be done carefully. When deﬁningthe policer, ensure thatyou have set

a rate thatis as largeas possible (for example, 4 Gbps)so that notrafﬁc will be seen as outof proﬁle. Thus, all trafﬁc

will “conform” to the policer and be marked appropriately. In addition, set both the conform and exceed action of

the policer to transmit. As of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(11)EX, use of the set ip commands is not supported.
